Sunna Olafson Furstenau is a writer of historical fiction and narrative nonfiction rooted in place and memory. Raised in the Icelandic pioneer settlement of Eyford, North Dakota, she grew up surrounded by land, history, and stories carried quietly from one generation to the next.

Her writing explores the emotional landscape of migration — what is lost, what is carried, and what endures — drawing on deep historical research, family history, and lived connection to both Iceland and the Upper Midwest.

She is the author of several books, essays, and public installation storyboards. She is currently working on a multi-volume historical fiction series set in Iceland and North America during the late nineteenth century.

She lives in North Dakota with her husband, Jeff, near the land her ancestors once settled. They have two children, eight grandchildren, and two dogs.

Sunna Sagas is a space for stories in progress, reflection, and the long work of remembering meant to be carried forward for those who come after us.
